(OR) The City Life – Its Benefits And Problems
Life in a city or a big city has its
uses and abuses. It is both a blessing and a curse. It is both a bed of roses
and a bed of thorns.
Big cities are the centres of trade, and
various other activities of life. In a big city people move from one part of
the city to another in haste. In the morning, countless people move on to the
schools, colleges, offices, factories and shops for a day`s work. There is a
great rush of traffic on the roads. The same story is repeated in the afternoon
when the offices, factories and the educational institutions close.
In a big city the rents are very high;
hence the people live at great distances in the city. They have to go to work
daily, travelling that distance. The houses are crowded with people. Sanitation
is in a bad condition. Streets are narrow. The rooms are not well – lighted. The
atmosphere is not clean and fresh. Heaps of dirt are lying here and there. Only
a small portion of a big city is well – kept.
In a big city, the things of daily use
are very dear as compared to the small towns and villages. This is because
there are more people to buy than the things available. People come from
distant places to find jobs in a big city. Bribery and black - marketing are
common in a big city.
The life in a big city has also its
abuses. There are disturbing noises. There is no peace of mind. People get
tired; hence they like to enjoy their evening daily. The go to the restaurants
and hotels to take some rest. Some go to the cinema - houses to watch some film.
Some go to listen to some scholar. Others go to gardens and parks. Some go to
enjoy the crowds in the bright light of the shops. The city - life is also full
of traffic and pollution problems.
In a big city people have, however,
better educational facilities. There is a number of educational institutions;
hence the city - dwellers are better educated. There are greater chances of
employment for the educated and skilled workers.
To conclude, a city, particularly a big
city, offers to the people many kinds of recreation. The city - life is however,
not, as compared to the village – life, all comfortable and blessing. In a city,
money is indeed important everywhere. The city - life has thus its uses and
abuses at the same time.
