The Ants And The Cricket | The Best Moral Story | For Grade 9th & 11th Students
Once upon a time, a cricket lived near the hole of the ants. He believed in the false maxim: “Eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow you die.” So, he let no chance of enjoyment slip. Spring came with greenery and food in abundance.
He wanted to enjoy it to his fill. Hence, he made full use of the Opportunity and wasted the whole season in singing, dancing and merry making. He did not store even a morsel against the foggy, frosty days. On the other hand, the ants who were wise and could forecast the future, worked hard and laid up a large supply for the rainy day. At its fixed time, spring passed and winter set in.
There was snowfall everywhere and, as a result, there was unbearably biting cold. Vegetation all around went dry. Nothing to eat was left. The ants took refuge in their hole and began to use the food stored in warm days. But the happy go merry cricket who had stored nothing and began to starve. One day, he went to the ants. “I am starving. Please give me a morsel to save my life he said. "How has your store of food so soon ended at the very inception of the winter?” said the ants, He told them politely that he did not store a food at all. He only sang and danced the whole spring.
At his repeated humble requests, the ants asked him bitterly what he could give them in return. “I can sing and dance for you,” said the cricket.
The ants advised him to sing and dance till his death. Saying this, they bang the door on his face and let him starve in the cold. The cricket did not know: “The gains will quit pains.”
