brother describing the college Tournament, in which some of your
friends have taken part.

My dear Brother,
I must tell you
something about the College Tournament which was held on the 15th of this
month. It was really a gala day, and you would have shared our enthusiasm if
you had been present on this occasion.
The Sports Tournament
was declared open by the Principal at 8 A.M. The athletes in their white shorts
and vests marched past the pavilion which was beautifully decorated for the
occasion. After this, the sports commenced.
The first item on the
programme was 100 yards dash. This item is very popular with the students in
this college. A number of competitors took part in the race. Sultan, as usual,
held his own against some of the ambitious new entrants and won by a fair
margin. Parvaiz, who has recently come to this college, bids fair to be an
excellent athlete. Long jump, 440 yards race, Hammer-Throw came next on the
programme. Hammer-Throw provided a lot of fun and excitement. Muhammad Ali, that
short, hefty boy, who was your class-fellow, bettered his previous record. We
hope he will do very well in the University Tournament. The cycle race and
obstacle race were the highlights of the day. When Goyandi came out of the
dirty pit he looked like a prehistoric caveman. Everybody laughed at him. The
staff race provided a lot of fun to the spectators. Our dear old professor in
Social Sciences ran faster than these own spectacles which he left behind on the
track. He dashed past the finishing line as he couldn’t see it.
