Typewriter
A
typewriter is a Small but very useful machine
. In the front part of the typewriter there are four rows of black keys .
White letters are written on these keys in the three front rows . The two keys
on each side of the front row have no letter on them . They are called shaft
keys . The keys on the back row each have two things on them, a number and a
sign .
At the back of the typewriter there is
a part which is called carriage. It is
called the carriage because the typed paper is carried along by it from right
to left . When we want to type a paper we pass it under the roller . Just in
front of the roller there is a piece of black material that is called the
ribbon . There is a long bar of wood or metal at the lower end of the front
keys . This is called the space bar, we use this bar when we come to the end of
a word . If we do not press this bar at the end of a word, all the letters will
be mixed together .
Now let us put a piece of paper and
strike the keys one by one . This is what appears on the paper .
