A
Persian Wheel
Persian - wheels are quite common in the
Northern districts of West Pakistan . The Persian - wheel consists of two wooden wheels, one vertical and the other Horizontal
. The notches on these wheels touch each other at a certain
point . A chain to which small earthen pots are fastened by a piece of cord
,movies round the vertical wheel. This
chain reaches the water deep down in the well . The horizontal wheel is turned
by a buffalo or bullock or camel. The horizontal wheel rotates the vertical
wheel, and the pots full of water come up and empty themselves into the
water channel and go down . Thus a
constant stream of water flows out of
the channel and pours into a reservoir . When the wheel is working it sets up a
pleasant noise which can be heard at a distance.
