My dear Perla Cayubit Dionisio,
I am thankful to you for your letter. I
am pleased to learn about your sister’s marriage. You may be happy to know
about marriages in Pakistan.
A wedding in our country is a very happy
event. When the date is fixed for the marriage, preparation is made for it. A few
days before the marriage, invitation cards are sent to the relatives and
friends by the parents of both the bride and the bridegroom. The marriage
ceremony is performed in the house of the bride's father. On the wedding day, a
great procession is formed which is called Bharat. The bridegroom is seated in
a decorated car. When the marriage party arrives at the bride’s house, It is
welcomed warmly. At that time, drums are beaten, music is played and fireworks
are let off. Then the bridegroom is given a seat fit for him. Other guests sit
around him.
When the Nikah is over, the guests are
served with tea or cold drinks according
to cold or summer weathers. After some time, they are served with zarda, pulao,
mutton or chicken or beef and some sweet dish like fire. After this, the
bridegroom returns in a procession with his bride. Greetings are offered to the
bridegroom.
Yours
sincerely,
X.Y.Z.
