A Cricket Match
“Sports do not
build character. They reveal it.”

Last Monday I watched a cricket
match. It was played between our college team and Friend’s Club. It was played
on our college ground. Our college was closed so that the students might watch
the match.
The arrangements for the match were very
good. There was a very good sitting arrangement for the guests and the
teachers. The students were trying to get good places to watch the match. They
were laughing and talking loudly. Some students were dressed in very fantastic
(تصوراتی، بہترین) clothes. They were enjoying themselves.
Many outsiders (باہر کے لوگ) were
also present. They had special permission from the Principal. The teachers were
also enjoying themselves. They knew that no bell would be rung that day and
they did not have to go to classes in a hurry. They did not have any attendance
register with them.

good when better is expected.”

Before the match, both the teams were
introduced to the Principal. He shook (نا ہلا) hands with them and wished them good luck. Our team had won
Lahore Board Championship. Friend’s Club was also a very experienced team. They
had won many tournaments. It was hoped that the match would be very interesting
and thrilling.
The match started at the exact time. Our captain won the toss and decided to bat.
Our openers came to open the batting. They were looking very confident. Rashid
was to face the first ball. The bowler bowled quite (بالکل) fast. But it was not very good delivery. Rashid hit him to
the boundary. The remaining five balls had very good line and length. Rashid
had to play them very carefully. In the next over, he tried to play fast, but
the second ball hit his middle stump. Our next batsman played very sensibly.
Slowly and steadily he took the score to 56. The batsman on the other end was
giving him a chance to play. Our next player got out at a score of 82. At the
end of the innings, our team scored 186 for 6 wickets.

an opportunity to measure yourself against your own potential. ` (Robin William)
After lunch, the batsmen of the
Friend’s Club came to bat. They were playing very sensibly. They were trying to
play every ball on merit. They were hitting only the bad balls. At first, our
bowlers were looking helpless. But then Saqlain came to bowl. He bowled very
well and took five wickets only for 25 scores. Now the batsmen were under
pressure. They could not play their natural game. In the end, they were all out
at a score of 125.
We were very happy with our success. At
the end of the match, there was a prize distribution ceremony. Saqlain has announced the man of the match for his 5 wickets. It was a great match and we
had enjoyed it very much.
