Unit: 6
The Fun They Had

The beautiful essay ‘The Fun They Had' is written by Isaac Asimov. In it, he points out the comparison between modern, technology-driven education
and traditional human-centred science. The tale shows how big trust in
machines can cause learning to be lonely, mechanical, and less amusing. Through hero Margie’s
experiences, it submits that personalised digital teaching may default to the
warmth, interaction, and emotional connection of actual classrooms. The
awareness of old schools follows the value of social learning, in which pupils
get education together, reveal ideas, and help one another. It also asserts
that human teachers contribute understanding and faith that machines cannot
entirely change. Through the tale, it advises us that evolution in technology
should not take away the joy and human element of education.
