On His Blindness

faith, and acceptance of [Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ)] Allah’s will. The poet expresses his
inner struggle after losing his eyesight and fears that he can no longer serve
[Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ
وَتَعَالَىٰ)] God effectively. The poet is worried
that his work has become desperate and that he may be verified for not using
it. Nonetheless, the poem proceeds from uncertainty to reassurance over the
voice of persistence. It teaches that [Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ)] God does not demand great deeds from
everyone, especially from those who are unable to act. At the end he concluded
that duty remains in accordance with humility and trust in religion.
