Dear Nafees,
I have just received
your kind letter in which you asked me to write to you about my first
impression of the college. As you already know, I have got admission to a Government
college and am attending classes regularly. I am feeling a complete change
here which is all due to the college atmosphere. I am constrained to pronounce:
"And
solid learning never falls,
Without
the verge of college walls."
It is a wonderful life
of bliss, freedom, liberty, and learning. An atmosphere of competition, in all
spheres, prevails. In college, we get rid of capital punishment. There is
no fear of snubbing, scolding, and admonishing. There is no strict discipline in
school. A student lives at his own will. He sleeps much, plays a little, talks
a great deal, and studies occasionally. He is afraid of none. The only
punishment to which he is liable is the fine that he exacts from his parents
with the rigor of an Income Tax Officer. The teachers treat the students kindly
and politely. They are very amiable and we, very confidently, discuss our
problems with them.
The teachers also
encourage us to put more questions. In the vacant periods, we approach them and
discuss with them problems that confront us. We have a free discussion among
ourselves. We debate about studies, political issues, and current national and
international affairs.
Sometimes, during my
free periods, I go to the library where I study my favorite books and
newspapers to enhance my knowledge. Many times, we take part in activities like
sports, quiz competitions, and debates. I feel that it is the golden period of
my life with which everyone is not blessed. May Allah grant me the power
and strength to make the best possible use of this golden period of life. I
have realized:
“College
inspired me to think differently,
It’s
like no other time in your life.”
