THREE
TRAVELLERS & A BAG OF GOLD
"Tit
for Tat" is a famous proverb. Let us relate a story to illustrate this
moral.
Once there lived three friends in a
village. Apparently, they were hand in glove with one another. It happened so
that they went on a long journey. They had to pass through thick woodland.
Suddenly, they saw a bag full of coins. Their joy knew no bounds.
They had started their journey to try
their luck and end their poverty. The bag full of coins was a promise for
their prosperity in future. The moment they saw the bag and the coins in it,
their inherent selfishness, meanness and greed came to the forefront. However,
they decided to distribute the coins among themselves.
They sent one of them to bring some food
from the city because they were hungry. The friend who was sent to the city to
bring some food decided to kill the other two friends and get the whole bag of
coins. He purchased some poison and mixed it with the food.
In his absence, the other two friends
thought along the same lines. In fact, all were ignorant of the laws of nature.
They did not know that greed is a curse. They thought of killing their friend
on his return. All were disseminating the same thing and all were going to gain
the same. Everyone was digging a pit for the other and everyone was to fall
into it. Our actions depend upon our intentions and the intention of all was
bad.
When the third friend returned from the
city with poisoned food, the other two friends fell upon him and killed him.
They did not know that destiny had the same thing in store for them. They were
soon to face the music of their evil deed. They were hungry and ate the food
hastily. The septic food showed its effect and the law of nature asserted
itself. Both died on the spot leaving the bag of coins for those who would
deserve it.
They fell prey to greed and temptation
and greed leads to destruction. They sowed evil for one another, and they
reaped the same.
MORAL:
1. Tit
for Tat.
2. Greed
is a curse.
3. As
you sow so shall you reap.
4. He
who digs a pit for others himself falls into it.
