The
Hare and The Tortoise
It
is a proverb fact that slow and steady wins the race and the oft–read and oft-repeated story of the hare and the tortoise will suffice to prove the truth
of this proverb.
A very proud hare used to laugh at a
tortoise for his laziness. The tortoise could not put up with this insult and
challenged the hare to run a race. The hare accepted the challenge and decided to
establish his superiority over the poor tortoise. The top of a hill was fixed
as a destination and the race started on the appointed day. The hare made a
brilliant start and left the tortoise far behind. On the way, the hare thought
of taking a rest for some time and lying down under a shady tree.
The
tortoise, on the other hand, continued walking slowly but steadily. On the way,
he saw the hare enjoying a sound sleep. He continued his race with firm
conviction in his success. He knew that those who work by fits and starts never
succeed in life. By and by, he reached the winning post. After a long time, the
hare woke up and reached the top of the hill in no time. He was dumbfounded to
see the tortoise there. He was ashamed of his pride but he came to know the
importance of steady and continuous work.
MORAL:
“Slow and steady wins the race”.
