How
to take care of cuts and scrapes
Dealing with small cuts and wounds at home or on the road raises our confidence. We learn how to deal with sudden problems. Usually, small wounds stop bleeding after a short time. But if blood continues to flow, we should press the wound softly for about half a minute. Constant pressure will stop the blood flow. After the bleeding has stopped, we should clean the wound carefully. We may use a clean piece of cloth and soap. But soap can create irritation in wound. Therefore, we should keep it away from the actual wound. If after washing, we see that some particles of dirt are still there in the wound, we should use a sterilized tweezers to remove them. But if you fail to clean the wound thoroughly, you should go to your doctor.
Cleaning the wound reduces the risk of infection. After cleaning, we should cover the wound with antibiotic cream. The cream will keep the wound soft and will boost the natural healing system of the body. Sometime, such cream may cause irritation in the wound. In such a case, we should stop using the cream. After applying cream we should dress the wound. It would keep the wound safe from dirt and bacteria. After a few days, when the wound is out of the risk of infection, we should expose it to air. It would speed up the healing process. The changing of dressing is necessary every day. The dressing should also be changed if it becomes damp or unclean. If the recovering of the wound is slow or the wound gets infected, we should see the doctor without any delay.
