A Stitch in Time Saves Nine
Sometimes,
we find it difficult to mend things well in time considering it a waste of time. We
do not know that a stitch in time saves nine. So, every damage should be
repaired at once otherwise it will cause irreparable loss as is explained in the
best story a stitch in time saves nine.
Once
a messenger was ordered to lug some instructions from the king to the commander
of the army. He was in a hurry. He wanted to transmit the message as soon as
possible.
When
he was about to set out on the journey, his companion said that a nail from the
shoe of his horse was missing. He did not pay attention to it. The messenger
said that he was in a hurry and to set
it right after reaching his destination. He wanted to save time.
On
the way, the second nail from the shoe slipped off. The messenger did not
bother about it. At last, all the nails from the shoe went off one by one. The
horse could not run any longer. He became very late on the way. He was much
worried. He approved galloping the horse but it did not track for want of a
nailed shoe. The horse got injured and could not run more. Soon it got dead
tired, fell down, and died.
The
messenger was also injured. He rushed towards his destination. He ran on foot.
When he reached the battlefield, he found that their army had been defeated by
the enemy. He was much ashamed of his negligence and could not face the king. In
this way, he had lost many hours in saving a minute Had the messenger set right
the first nail, he would not have suffered this trouble. His army faced defeat
for his lack of ill-planning. It is
rightly said that a stitch in time saves nine.
