Write a letter to a friend describing the tour that you recently enjoyed in the company of a students' party.
Rizvi Lodge, Circular Road,
Lahore. July 16, 2021.
My dear Qasmi,
Your pleasant letter of
the 12th instant greeted me back home from a tour that I had last week with my
class-fellows. I returned this morning from ‘Google Pura’ where our walking tour ended after a week's trekking.
There were sixteen of
us, all young and vivacious. We had motored to Murree in the first week of
September. The day was bright and cool. We rested there for three days and then
packed up our things. We sent our luggage with the servants and walked up to
Nathiagali, which is about twenty miles from Murree. It was simply beautiful. We
left the main road and travelled mostly by the hill tracks.
We left Nathiagali very
early in the morning after taking a heavy tea. We stuffed our pockets with
sandwiches, eggs and biscuits for the way. We had decided to halt by ten
o'clock, have our meals and march again. We had been on our legs for more than
five hours and had covered about 12 miles. We felt heavy after our lunch and
lay asleep under the shade of a mighty pine. When we got up it was already two
in the afternoon. Wasif Ali Wasif took out his banjo and gave us the latest
hits from ‘Badal’. In a minute the sky was overcast with clouds. There was a
heavy downpour that drenched us through and through.
We left the place at 3
P.M. and jogged leisurely. We halted for the night at a small wayside
tavern. The next day we began our trekking back to Murree. Going up is a tedious
job. Iqbal and Bilawal had a difficult time with their pinching shoes. We got
them on the bus. Then it began to drizzle which continued for an hour. It
drenched us to our skins. We slept for the night at Changla Gali, a place
remarkable for its first, gigantic deodars and feathery ferns. The next day we moved
ahead to Murree and reached the Mall at 2 P.M. We rested for a couple of days,
dipped our feet in hot water, and got ready for our descent to ‘Google Pura.’
The last hop was a bit
annoying. A number of motor cars and lorries passed by our side leaving behind
petrol smoke. As the sunset, we entered ‘Google Pura’ like a batch of
discoverers who had explored a new country! I am still tired. Wasif Ali Wasif
is with me. Come if you get a day off.
Kind regards,
I
am,
Yours
sincerely, Nadim.
