Ans. Cartwright became the successor of Chips when he resigned from headship on November 11, 1918. He joined Brookfield in January 1919. He was also very courteous to Mr Chips.

Q.2. Who were around Chips when his fit of unconsciousness was over? OR What did Chips see around him when he awoke after being unconscious? (FB, MN-09)

Ans. When Mr Chips came to his senses, he saw Dr Merivale, Mrs Wickett, Mr Cartwright the headmaster and old Baffles standing around him. They were talking about him.

Q.3. What was the headmaster saying when he closed his eyes? OR What did Cartwright whisper about Chips' children? (BP-12, SL, LR-16)

Ans. The headmaster was commenting on Mr Chips’ private life. He was saying that Mr Chips married but he remained issueless.
