THE FEED
The Theme / The Central Idea (The Feed)
Apparently,
this poem is very simple but when we read between the lines we find it
conveying a very thought-provoking idea. The mother sparrow brings a grain of
millet to feed her young ones. The new born are in the nest. They are ten in
number. She wondered how she should break that small grain into pieces to feed
all of her ten children. The poet recalls the most horrible incident of human
history when man broke atom, manufactured bombs, dropped them on two cities of
Japan, and killed millions of people in no time. He asks man that he can break
the smallest unit of a thing and destroy two whole cities and kill lac of human
beings but can he split a small grain of food to feed lac of hungry, naked and
diseased people. To give life to people is a better art than giving death to
them.
